Carbide cannon, so the people of Pontianak used to call it. It is a unique tradition of Pontianak that may be the only one in Indonesia and in the world. Why is it unique? In some areas there may be a similar tradition. But very different from the tradition of carbide cannon in Pontianak City. In addition to large-sized cannon, also sounded alternately and face to face between the groups on one side of the river with the group on the opposite side of the river. And this is not just one of two groups, but it can reach dozens of groups along the coast of the Kapuas  small River face to face like a war. One group can have 3 to 8 carbide cannons. So you can imagine the state of Pontianak city when welcoming the Eid al-Fitr, booming with the sound of a jarring cannon replied like being in a war-torn city. For some unfamiliar people, the noise may be very disturbing. But again for most people of Pontianak City. The carbide guns are a tradition that has been ingrained to them, which can not be found every day. This tradition was once banned by the police and local government. New in the last 13 years Pontianak people can do their unique tradition freely without any prohibition from the police and local government.
